BYD eMax 7 Ownership Review: Real Range, Battery Health, Service & Truth
The BYD eMax 7 is one of the first electric MPVs in India and started this electric MPV segment. Imported as a Completely Built Up (CBU) unit from China, it is available at a price of Rs 29.90 lakhs (Ex-Showroom) for its top-spec model. Our AllAboutEVs team did an eMax 7 Overall Ownership Experience of this 7-seater electric MPV to find out if it is a MPV worth justifying its price or not.
BYD eMax 7 Design & Tech-Loaded Cabin
Visually, the eMax 7 looks sporty from the front and has an aggressive design language with its ‘Dragon Face’ aerodynamics and floating LED headlamps and is quite bulky from the inside. However, the user admitted that after entering into the cabin, the overall narrative changes as the interiors are at a premium side.
AdvertisementThe tech on offer is quite impressive. However, we don’t like that the HVAC controls were attached to the touchscreen unit and felt quite uncomfortable to use. The 360-Degree camera offers a matrix-style rotatable 3D view that works intuitively while the car is on move. Other features include a panoramic dark glass roof, Wireless Apple CarPlay and a sleek NFC key card.

Looking at the comfort, the tall drivers find the front seats a bit lacking in height adjustment. Apart from this, the flat floor ensures optimum space in the second-row seats. Once you fold the third-row seats, there is a significant boot space on offer.
BYD eMax 7 Performance
This is where the eMax 7 truly shines as the upgraded 150 kW motor churns a maximum power output of 200 BHP and can seamlessly run with all seven people on board.
The instant torque is available at just a push of the button, making overtaking a breeze. It also features a sturdy suspension and absorbs potholes with ease and provides a sophisticated ride experience with a low center of gravity.

BYD eMax 7 Battery & Range
Our AllAboutEVs team takes range and battery technology very seriously while evaluating electric cars. BYD’s 71.8 kWh Blade lithium-ion battery pack provides impressive performance and claims a significant range of 530 Km on a single charge.
Let’s put some real-world range numbers into perspective, which is achieved after 16,000 Km of real-world driving including frequent A/C usage and driving on hilly patches of road. Thus with a battery warranty of 8-year or 1,60,000 Km, range anxiety can be easily averted.

| BYD eMax 7 | Claimed Range | Real-World Range |
| Range | 530 KM | 450 Km (Mixed Driving Conditions) |
BYD eMax 7 Service & Running Costs
The BYD eMax 7 provides a frugal running cost of just Rs 1.2 per Km from charging at home. Due to regenerative braking, there is less burden on the brake pads which ensures service intervals at 20,000 Km, which translates to affordable maintenance.

The Final Verdict
The BYD eMax 7 is a pure definition of reliability. As electric MPVs are exposed to low range with sudden sensor failures, this electric MPV provides remarkable performance on the road. During the extensive road tests, the user never complained about glitches, charging issues and never made them stranded on the road.
According to our Analysis, The BYD eMax 7 is a practical yet powerful electric MPV that can accelerate the EV transitions through its impeccable performance on the road justifying its hefty price.
