Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the ongoing India Energy Week 2025 on Tuesday and expressed that India is rapidly experiencing a major shift in E-mobility, as many users are purchasing EVs in India, contributing to a green revolution. He also demanded swift action to meet the rising EV power supply for the country.

He has set goals for India to achieve a 20% ethanol mandate by October 2025. PM Modi also expressed the current ethanol blending rate which stands at 19% which is possible due to foreign exchange savings, revenues from farmers, and significant decline in CO2 emissions.

India’s Energy Goals

PM Modi was focussing on India's energy goals as he is setting a vision to achieve the 2030 deadline. This includes the development of 500 Gigawatts of renewable energy capacity, so that India can achieve net zero carbon emissions for Indian Railways, and producing five million metric tons of hydrogen every year.

He explained his vision by saying, “India is driving not only its growth but also focussing on the growth of the world, with the renewable energy sector playing an important role.”

He also pointed out the substantial growth of India’s biofuel sector with more than 500 million metric tonnes of sustainable feedstock available.

Energy Generation on Five Pillars

According to PM Modi, the energy generation in India is dependent on five pillars:

  1. Harnessing Resources
  2. Encouraging Innovation
  3. Economic Strength
  4. Political Stability
  5. Strategic Geography for Energy Trade & Commitment to Global Sustainability.

These five pillars will lead to generate new opportunities in India’s growing energy sector. To promote this, the Government has revised and exempted several items from the basic customs duty which are related to manufacturing of EVs and mobile phone batteries, which includes cobalt powder, lithium-ion batteries waste, lead and zinc.

This budget has clarified Modi’s vision, which helps to accelerate and bring a major transition towards EV mobility and boosting the EV infrastructure in the country and developing it so that it can meet the power demands of the rising EV owners.
