The launch of the Maruti e Vitara has been postponed, with deliveries expected to start in September.

Maruti has delayed the launch of their latest electric offering, the E-Vitara, as the chairman RC Bhargava has confirmed that the deliveries for their electric SUV will commence from September.
When the E-Vitara was displayed at the Bharat Mobility Auto Expo 2025, there were speculations that the electric SUV will be launched in March, but it was delayed by about 6 months.
What is the reason for the delay in the introduction of the Maruti e Vitara?
It's worth mentioning that the launch of the Maruti E-Vitara has been delayed for the second time. The first delay was caused at the start of the production of the car by 5 months due to various software challenges and improper battery supply.
The problems pushed back the car's release date from September 2024 to February 2025. The Japanese manufacturer is yet to clarify the reasons for the second delay in the launch of the E-Vitara.
This will also lead to the delay of Toyota’s version of the E-Vitara, originally called the Urban Cruiser EV.
Deliveries and exports of the Maruti e Vitara in India
The Chairman RC Bhargava also said about the delay, “This year’s production of E-Vitara will be majorly exported. The annual production will be somewhere between 70,000 EVs in the span of 6-7 months, with a majority of bulk being exported.”
We have already confirmed that the E-Vitara will be manufactured at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant and at the Auto Expo debut, Maruti said that 50% of the production will be exported to Japan and Europe. But it now seems that the majority of the EV’s units are kept for exports, with a smaller fraction of cars retained for domestic sales.
Maruti e Vitara and its competitors
The E-Vitara is expected to launch in the price bracket of Rs 20-30 Lakh, as it would be directly going against the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric (Rs 17.99-24.38 Lakh), Mahindra BE 6 (Rs 18.90-26.90 Lakh), Tata Curvv EV (Rs 17.49-22.24 Lakh) and MG ZS EV (Rs 18.98-26.64 Lakh) in the Indian EV market.
The E-Vitara will be powered by a 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery pack options, while the international models are even equipped with AWD system, which will be missing in India.
