The electric revolution will be taking a huge leap with the arrival of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, but beyond brochures and technical specifications, the real question remains unanswered, as to how does it perform on actual Indian highways?

A reputed media channel did a real-world range test and we noted their experience about how much real range they were able to extract from e Vitara.

Maruti e Vitara Real-World Range Test in India (79% to 0%)

The real world range test of e Vitara included a highway run from Gurugram to Chandigarh with an approximate distance of 282 Km, without stopping to charge. The tester started its journey with 79% state of charge (SOC), showing a significant range of 385 Km on a single charge.Maruti E-Vitara real world range test in IndiaThe test kicked off with heavy traffic, which just impacted efficiency a lot. Despite the traffic, the tester felt very easy to drive the e Vitara as the steering is very light and the suspension is on the stiffer side, which is uncomfortable especially on long journeys, as the car responds aggressively to the sharp potholes.

However, the real result came out on the highway when the battery was depleted.

The First Leg: After crossing the city, the car covered around 75 Km and the battery dropped to 62% showcasing a decent range of 292 Km on a single charge.

The Real Numbers: During the drive, with just 122 Km left to reach Chandigarh, the battery showed 39% SOC as the displayed range showing 185 Km. This was a challenging moment as despite witnessing a charger at a Dhaba, the tester decided to push the limits of the car and skip charging in order to extract the real range. The Verdict

The main question is did they make it? Yes as the e Vitara successfully covered the distance between Gurugram and Chandigarh with just 79% SOC. However, according to the tester, it was very close to reaching 0% but the car emerged as an exceptional highway runner covering 282 Km in less than the full charge.

However, for the first attempt, Maruti has designed a product that can genuinely provide good real-world range numbers and seems like an ideal car for perfect weekend getaways.
