Mercedes-Benz CLA Real-World Range Test Explained

The Mercedes Benz CLA Electric was launched recently and is the entry-level model in Mercedes electric lineup for India. It comes with a 58 kWh in the CLA 200 and a substantial 85 kWh battery pack in the higher-spec CLA 250+ variant. We recently had a talk with the tester of the CLA 250+ in order to learn about the Mercedes-Benz CLA Real-World Range in India.

According to the test, the CLA Electric provided a real-world range between 590 - 612 Km in mixed driving conditions. Before starting the test, the test car was fully charged and tyre pressure was maintained as per manufacturer’s recommendations. The car was driven in Mumbai city and highways, and the tester maintained the average speed.

During the range test, the car was driven in ‘Eco’ Mode. In the city, switching on the strongest regen mode helps in recouping energy, which results in increased efficiency at higher speeds. The two-speed gearbox helps in achieving greater efficiency due to its taller second gear. 

The Mercedes CLA Electric also provides a low coefficient drag of 0.21 Cd, thus it ensures greater efficiency especially on highways, which is generally not seen in EVs. Below we have provided the exact real-world range figures. 

Mercedes CLA Charging Experience

The Mercedes CLA 250+ supports fast DC charging at up to 320 kW, but currently India has very few charging stations supporting up to this power. However, during the 150 kW DC fast charger test, the average charging speed was around 92 kW with a peak charging speed of 125 kW. It took around 35 mins to charge from 20-80%. 

Throughout the test, the climate control was set to 22 Degree in full auto setting. The other electricals including the audio system, indicators and heated and massaging seats are used when required, just as a normal consumer.
