JSW-MG Motor India has announced the detailed specifications such as battery size, range and features of the MG M9 before its launch. MG commenced the booking process of the electric MPV back in May with a booking amount of Rs 51,000 and will be the first electric car to be sold via the brand’s premium Select dealership. It will be the inaugural electric MPV offered at a price point of Rs 65 Lakh (ex-showroom).

M9 Design Highlights

Dimension wise, MG M9 is a big car as it measures an elongated length of 5,200 mm in length, 2,000 mm wide and 1,800 mm in height, with a substantial wheelbase at 3,200 mm, thus providing more storage space than the competition like the Kia Carnival and Toyota Vellfire. 

At the front, the MG M9 incorporates a trapezoidal grille that is highlighted by LED headlights, along with connected daytime running lights (DRLs) positioned above, which spotlight the split-light design. The M9 will be equipped with a 19-inch alloy wheel setup, which comes with self-healing Continental ContiSeal tyres.

The rear doors are electrically assisted and can be opened with a slide. It even houses an electrically operated tailgate, connected tail-lights, wipers and a stylish roof spoiler with an integrated high stop lamp. MG will also be offering the M9 in various paint shades such as Pearl Lusture White, Metal Black, and Concrete Grey. 

MG M9 Battery & Performance 

The long MPV will be driven by a 90 kWh Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) battery integrated into the floor of the M9. MG has opted for NMC batteries because they provide greater energy density than standard lithium iron phosphate batteries.

POWER: This battery pack is capable of generating 245 horsepower and achieving a peak torque of 350 Nm, with an electric motor mounted on the front axle. As per the company's internal assessments, the M9 can offer a noteworthy range of 548 kilometers on a single charge.

The M9 has a capability to be charged in 90 minutes via using a 160kW DC fast charger. The company also provides an additional 11kW AC charger, which can be installed at home or office. This charger is capable of charging 0-100% charging takes approximately 10 hours. The M9 users can also use the company’s network of public fast-charging stations which can be found through MG’s eHUB app. 

MG M9 Features 

The interior of M9 is crafted with a perfect blend of leather and suede, finished in cognac brown. In terms of features, the M9 gets a 12.23-inch touchscreen and a 7-inch driver’s display providing entertainment and driver statistics data. The infotainment display is integrated with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and is powered by JBL sound system. 

A variety of additional features are available, such as electrically adjustable, heated, ventilated, and massage-enabled seats for both the driver and passenger. Other highlights include a wireless charger, a single-pane sunroof, multiple drive modes, a digital IRVM, and a PM 2.5 air filter.

Second Row: Coming to the most important aspect of an MPV, and that is the second row seats which are captain chairs (MG says as Presidential Seats) provides a variety of comfortable features such as massage, ventilation, and heating functionality. There is also an addition of fold-out ottomans for extra comfort. 

BOSS MODE: The most interesting part is all of the seats can be accessed through the infotainment system, located at the headrests of each seat. There is also an inclusion of a Boss Mode which moves the kerb-side front passenger seat to open up more room space, thus providing extra comfort by adding tons of space. 

MG motors has taken good care of chauffeurs as they have equipped panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting and manual window shades. The rear entertainment screens will be optional and have to be purchased exclusively. 

Third Row: In the third row, you'll find AC vents and USB-A connectivity. The M9 is designed to support Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging capabilities. Moreover, it boasts a generous boot space of 945 litres, plus an additional 55-litre frunk.

MG M9 Safety Technology 

Concerning safety features, the M9 will come equipped with Level 2 ADAS, seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, ESP, EPB, TPMS, all-disc brakes, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and an emergency brake assist, all included in the safety suite of MG electric vehicles. However, MG has not revealed the BNCAP safety rating for the M9, but after several tests it has scored full 5-star ratings in Euro and Australian crash tests.
