Mobis Introduces New Electric Vehicle Battery Factory in Tamil Nadu Featured Image

Mobis India Limited, which is a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor India and a big player in automotive components have commenced their operations at their newly established EV battery System Assembly (BSA) located at Siperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. 

The Plant is constructed at an area expanding across 8.15 Acres situated near to the Hyundai’s Vehicle Manufacturing Unit. The facility is capable of manufacturing 36,000 units per year, which can be further expanded to 75,000 units to meet the rising demand for electric cars. 

This plant will also be generating steady employment, by recruiting for more than 255 direct and indirect job positions, as claimed by the company. The facility will feature advanced machinery required for the production of superior performance battery systems for potential EVs made in India. 

Battery Assembly of Hyundai Creta

The new assembly unit will be playing an important role in the manufacturing of Hyundai Creta Electric as it will be the first Hyundai EV to assemble its battery pack here. Thus Mobis is focussing on aligning with Hyundai’s strategy to establish their EV network in India and to streamline their manufacturing facilities. 

Currently, The assembly unit is working on developing Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt (NMC) battery packs and in future is expected to manufacture Lithium-Ion-Phosphate (LFP) batteries. The facility was officially inaugurated by the Minster for Industries, Tamil Nadu, Shri T.R.B. Rajaa 

The managing director of Mobis India, Park Ki Chul,expressed his happiness at the inauguration and said, “This new EV assembly plant is a big revolution to India’s transition to sustainable and eco-friendly transportation.”
