Ather Energy has grabbed the third spot in highest selling electric two-wheelers in September 2025 in India and beaten Ola electric. As per Vahan’s retail sales, Ather sold around 16,558 units last month, followed by 12,223 units of Ola in the same month.

TVS has continued to establish dominance in the electric two-wheeler market with over 21,052 units sold, with Bajaj & Chetak at the second position with 17,972 units.

Ather surpasses Ola in Electric Two-Wheeler Sales

Ather has a strong foothold in the Indian electric two-wheeler market and was aiming for the top three spot for a considerable amount of time but was falling behind key players with a significant margin. However, the company was focussing on diversifying its market presence with a majority of sales coming from non-southern states.

According to Ather, the company ranked for the number one position in the southern Indian market, combining the sales charts of all the southern states. Nevertheless, its major markets include Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.

The brand is currently focussing to expand its touchpoints and has increased significantly, from 49 outlets in March 2024 to 109 outlets in today’s time, thus registering a 156% of increase year-to-year, further increasing the sales at a massive scale.

The interesting thing here is that around 70% of Ather’s sales are generated from Rizta family scooters as the company is all set to compete with Bajaj Auto for the number two position, as the sales gap between the two brands is just under 1,500 units.

Ola’s Declining Sales Trend Continued

If we analyse the Indian electric two-wheeler market, then it is pretty evident that Ola Electric are struggling in sales numbers from the beginning of 2025, which the company has clarified that they have significantly reduced the sales numbers temporarily. However, Ola is witnessing a declining sales trend.

To counter this, Ola is heavily promoting its electric two-wheelers at a massive scale, with the introduction of a recent ‘Mahurat Mahotsav’ campaign, thus bringing its electric scooters and motorcycles at a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 50,000.

Ola Electric solidified its number three position from January-September sales by registering over 1.5 lakh units sold in this time period. Ather is not behind and is catching up with 1.3 lakh units sold during the same time period.

Ola facing stiff Competition with Vida

If we look at the current market dynamics, Hero MotorCorp’s Vida has also joined the battle and has witnessed a significant spike in numbers and sold over 11,856 units in September, thus coming close to Ola electric.

The company has also introduced their Battery-As-A-Service (BaaS) scheme which has ensured this much needed push in sales, thus amounting to lower acquisition costs on the e-scooter making it more flexible and accessible for users.

Meanwhile, TVS has emerged to be a top leader by establishing a strong foothold in the market with the iQube and the recently introduced Orbiter electric scooter at a cost-effective price in order to generate more demand in the market.
