Whenever we talk about EV revolutions, our mind just revolves around modern-looking electric cars and sleek electric scooters. But soon the EV revolution will be led by heavy-duty commercial trucks

In order to lead the transformation, NITI Aayog Member Rajiv Gauba, has officially introduced the Platform for Aggregating Clean Transport (PACT), alongside a comprehensive Zero Emission Truck Master strategy.

What is PACT?

PACT in simple terms is a smart initiative designed to bring every key EV player to the same table. The government has established a unified ecosystem that integrates logistics companies, electric truck manufacturers, charging infrastructure providers, and financers.

The primary goal of this platform is quite ambitious.

  • Aggregating Demand: Catering to the needs of buyers intended to increase the production of electric trucks.
  • Dedicated Infrastructure: Creation of specialized, dedicated charging stations on major routes so as to eradicate the fear of range anxiety for fleet operators.
  • Easier Financing: Thus increasing the accessibility to electric trucks by making finance smoother and much more viable for logistics companies.

Why Focus on Trucks? The Massive Impact

The NITI Aayog is prioritising trucks because commercial trucks travel hundreds of kilometers everyday, generating tons of carbon emissions and consuming vast amounts of fuel. Thus by electrifying the entire fleet, India can cause a significant shift towards electric mobility by reducing fuel consumption and toxic emissions at a massive scale.

The Road Ahead

Thus with the introduction of PACT and making the electric commercial ecosystem more mainstream, the green mobility for trucks is definitely a reality coming soon.
