The Government of Punjab is working hard to transform the state’s transport to electric mobility in order to make the overall transportation more greener, cleaner and accessible for you. As the official Punjab Electric Vehicle Policy is widely functional across the state, Punjab is aiming for 25% of all new vehicle registrations to be electrified towards the end of the policy period.

The Complete EV Subsidy Breakdown

The Punjab EV policy has listed various benefits and incentives which can be transferred through direct online reimbursements. Below we have mentioned the exact savings on different vehicle categories.

  • Electric Two-Wheelers (E-Bikes & Scooters): For daily commutes, the state is providing a generous incentive of INR 3,000 per kWh of battery capacity. You are also eligible for a maximum discount of up to INR 10,000 per vehicle. It is only valid for the first 50,000 registered owners.
  • Electric Cycles (E-Cycles): A good news for those who love pedaling with electric boost as E-Cycles with a top speed of under 25 Km/hr and should weigh less than 60 Kg. Under these circumstances, the e-cycles also suitable for high subsidies which includes. 
  1. Passenger E-Cycles: Enjoy a 25% discount on the maximum sale price, which is capped at INR 4,000 per cycle. 
  2. Cargo E-Cycles: These are highly suitable for small loads as they come with a 33% subsidy from the main price, restricted to INR 10,000. However, this deal is only limited to the first 20,000 passenger and cargo e-cycle owners across the state. 

Punjab EV Subsidy for Three wheelers

  • Electric Three-Wheelers (E-Autos & Rickshaws): For these city dwellers, these subsidies are highly rewarding.

  1. E-Autos: They are available with INR 3,000 per kWh, maxing out at INR 30,000 (Limited to the first 5,000 buyers).
  2. E-Rickshaws & E-Carts: These also come with INR 3,000 per kWh, limited to INR 15,000 per vehicle specifically for the first 10,000 and 8,000 owners respectively.
  • Light Commercial Vehicles (Goods Carrier): All the businesses with green commercial fleets are also eligible for various benefits. Those opting for L5N and N1 category e-LCVs are eligible for INR 3,000 per kWh. This amounts to a max incentive of INR 30,000 for L5N vehicles and INR 50,000 for N1 category vehicles.

  1. If you are interested in electric garbage collection vehicles, there is a significant subsidy up to INR 5,000 per kWh (Max INR 50,000). The subsidy is only applicable for the first 2,500 garbage collection vehicles.

How to apply for EV Subsidy in Punjab

There are complete dedicated steps in order to claim your subsidy which is digitalised and does not require any agent intervention.

  1. Buy Approved: Buy a legal electric car from a state-certified registered dealer.
  2. Apply Online: Mention your details of the EV online to the official state EV portal within 90 days of registering your electric car. 
  3. Submit Docs: Upload your official documents of your EV which includes invoice, RC, battery registration certificate, and Aadhar card of the owner.
  4. Receive Funds: Carefully check for your subsidy and review it once it is reflected into your bank account within 30 working days of applying for the claim.

The road for Punjab ahead is definitely electric as apart from these fantastic incentives, there is a complete waiver on road taxes and registration fees for newly registered electric vehicles, which makes buying an EV an extremely lucrative decision.
