Range Rover Sport Electric unveiled: delivering an impressive 609km driving range

JLR has introduced the Range Rover Electric and has commenced bookings for the upcoming SUV in India. It will be the first fully electric model in the Range Rover Sport line-up. It will also be powered by a big 118.5 kWh battery pack, which is also used in Range Rover Electric, with a WLTP claimed-range of 609 Km. 

• Its dual-motor setup generates 550 Hp & 850 Nm. 
• 0-100 km/hr in 4.5 seconds. 
• The design is visually similar to the ICE model. 

Range Rover Sport Electric Technical Specs 

The Range Rover Sport Electric is underpinned by JLR’s 800-Volt Flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA-Flex). The battery gets an 8-year or 1.6 lakh km standard warranty, whichever comes first. 

POWER: The electric SUV is powered by dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) that generates up to 550 Hp and 850 Nm of peak torque. As per JLR, the torque is generated 50% faster than the substantial Range Rover Electric, as the peak 850 Nm of peak torque is the highest of any Range Rover Sport model yet.

The Range Rover Electric supports DC fast charging of up to 350 kW, which can recharge the batteries from 10-80% in a claimed 22 minutes. A 10-minute top-up can add a significant range of 220 Km of range to the electric SUV. 

SUSPENSION: The Range Rover Electric comes with a 61% stiffer body structure and 73 mm lower than the ICE Range Rover Sport. If we talk about the suspension setup, it gets double wishbones at the front and five-link arrangement at the rear, along with the addition of air suspension. 

It will also get twin-valve dampers, active roll control, and all-wheel steering. The braking system includes 380 mm ventilated discs with four-piston callipers at the front and 355 mm discs at the rear. 

Range Rover Sport Electric Design 

Visually, the Range Rover Sport Electric’s design is similar to its ICE version. At the front, it gets the same sleek LED headlights, an aero-optimised black grille featuring horizontal elements and legendary offset Land Rover logo, with Range Rover branding on the bonnet and functional air-inlets in black. 

Side Profile: Looking at the side profile, the SUV gets 22-inch alloy wheels with EV-specific wheel caps and aerodynamic inserts, along with the addition of flush-fitting door handles and blacked-out A, B, and C-pillars. The ORVMs and roof are also complimented with black finish. 

REAR: The rear is largely unchanged and similar to the ICE model and comes equipped with wraparound LED taillights placed above gloss-black trim that comes with Range Rover nameplate at the center. The tailgate also gets a black Sport badge, but doesn’t get EV branding.

Range Rover Sport Electric Features 

• The interior has a striking resemblance to the ICE counterpart as the dashboard comes with three-spoke steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls, a 13.1-inch infotainment touchscreen and 13.7-inch digital driver’s display. 
• Both screens come with EV-specific menus and get the same center console and drive mode selector stalk, same as the ICE model. 

• The Sport Electric has a five-seater layout. Other features include wireless phone charger, 4-zone climate control, rear sunblinds, and powered, heated and ventilated front seats for the front and rear passengers. 

Range Rover Sport Electric India Launch 

The Range Rover Sport Electric is expected to launch in India by March 2027 through import route. As it is an EV, it will be eligible for tariff concessions under the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA). It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 2.5 crore, having a significant premium over its competitors.
