Bentley Introduces the new Torcal as the brand’s first EV, set to launch in Mid-2027

The legendary Bentley Motors, known for its iconic supercharged W12s and staggering V8s, has introduced its first electric car, Torcal. It is the company’s first electric car and will be positioned below the Bentayga. The Torcal will be purely electric and will not get a petrol engine, as it is the usual routine for the company, whichever the powertrain. 

The Torcal is also the first Bentley to feature the brand's redesigned, modernised emblem, which was introduced last year. 

Bentley Torcal EV Design

Designing a company’s EV for a brand of high-calibre is not easy, but Robin Page’s in-house team has designed the car beautifully. The Torcal is 50 mm lower and 120 mm shorter than the standard-wheelbase Bentayga, yet it looks perfectly proportionate as compared to the Bentayga. 

The wheelbase is over 3 meters and the car is more than 5 meters in length, and overhangs are short. However, at the front, Bentley’s traditional ‘Endless Bonnet’ garners the majority of attention. EVs don’t need a grille for cooling, but as per the company, a car without a grille is basically faceless. 

Bentley has used illuminated one with crystal effect, diamond-like elements placed behind the polycarbonate panel. This is the car’s signature piece and it looks visually appealing when viewed from the rear-mirror. The face resembles the Continental T, redesigned with slim, high-tech lighting. 

The rear gets one of the slimmest tail-lamps in the competition. There is also an inclusion of a U-shaped motif that ties them together and enhances the car’s overall width.

The car gets 21-inch wheels as standard, and it is expected that the India-version will be equipped with high-profile trim. Other smart additions include a charging flap that slides open when you wave a hand over it and also gets a 90-inch frunk.

Bentley Torcal Technical Specs 

POWER: The Torcal is underpinned by the PPE platform that underpins the Porsche’s Cayenne Electric. The Torcal generates a staggering 888 Hp and 1,350 Nm of peak torque, which is the most powerful torque of any Bentley yet. 

It also comes with launch control and this much amount of torque is more than enough to pull a 2.7-tonne SUV accelerating from 0-100 kph in just 2.9 seconds. 

The power is generated from two permanent-magnet motors which are integrated from a 113 kWh, 800V battery, which comes with a 10-year 1,00,000-mile battery warranty. The claimed range stands at 600 Km WLTP and also supports 400 kW DC fast charging, providing a 10-80% charging in 16 minutes, providing around 160 Km of range in just 7-minute top-up. 

SUSPENSION: Bentley has used one of their most advanced chassis as it features a fully active suspension that replaces anti-roll bars altogether and five degrees of rear-wheel steer shrink with a turning radius of 11.1 m. It also gets Carbon-ceramic brakes with 440 mm front discs as optional. 

The ADAS also uses 25 radars, sensors, and cameras, as it can reverse the car along the last 50 meters of the route, and it can also park itself automatically in a designated space up to 200 meters away. 

Bentley Torcal: When will it Launch in India? 

The Torcal is expected to arrive in the Indian market sometime in 2027, as it is smaller in dimensions than the Bentayga but will be surprisingly expensive, because EVs are not bound to get the same customs-duty benefit under the new UK-India FTA. It could be launched in the Indian market around Rs 4.5 crore.
