BMW to introduce more cost-effective variants of the i5 in India by the end of 2025.

BMW India is looking to expand its EVs in India by introducing more economical variants of their i5 sedan by the end of 2025. Right now, the only version of the BMW i5 available is the premium M60 xDrive variant, which comes with a price tag of Rs 1.2 crore. However, on a global scale, BMW also provides the i5 in two more variants: the i5 eDrive40 and the xDrive40.

BMW i5 eDrive40, xDrive40 Range & Performance 

The eDrive40 features a rather conventional design layout as compared to the sporty yet aggressive design of the i5 M60 xDrive. However, the eDrive40 and xDrive40 resemble the same overall design and interior theme. Another similarity between these three models is the availability of the same 81.2 kWh battery pack, with different power outputs and range on a single charge. 

POWER: Powering the eDrive40 is a single motor mounted on the rear axle, which generates a maximum power output of 340 HP and a peak torque of 430 Nm, providing a claimed WLTP certified range of up to 582 Km. If we talk about the xDrive40, its battery is integrated with two motors, one attached to each axle, generating a combined power of 394 HP and 590 Nm of powerful torque with a claimed range of 538 KM on a single charge.

BMW i5 New Variants Expected Price

BMW is likely to set the starting price for the i5 sedan at Rs 72.5 Lakh, with the only top-tier variant costing Rs 1.2 Crore, thus the two upcoming variants can be priced between this price bracket. This signifies that the cost-effective BMW i5 eDrive40 will be launched at a price range between Rs 85-90 Lakh. 

The good thing about luxury sedans is that they are considerably limited as compared to their SUV counterparts, thus eDrive40 will enjoy zero competition, having no direct rival going against it.
