Haryana’s Town and Country Planning Department has proposed various amendments to the state’s Building code, 2017, which ensures mandatory EV-ready parking across new residential and commercial projects.

It is important to note that all new and renovated buildings should be installed with electrical conduits and proper EV-ready wiring infrastructure to support seamless EV charging across parking spots. The newly released draft is currently being open for public feedback. If approved, these rules will require developers to develop the charging infrastructure at the planning stage, instead of adding EV chargers later.

The commercial buildings such as office, malls and hotels will be required to install one charging point for three parking spaces. In residential and group housing projects, thus it is mandatory to install one charging point for every five parking spaces. The draft also allows EV chargers in basements and stilt parking areas, with safety-norms to meet first.

To make the seamless implementation of new rules and regulations, the EV charging infrastructure will be constructed outside the floor area. The norms will be further updated with a wide range of changes which will also include group housing societies, IT parks and large commercial complexes.
