Isuzu has introduced their D-Max EV, offering a range of up to 262 kilometers.

Isuzu has officially entered into the EV segment by introducing their latest D-Max EV, which is an electric version of their popular pick-up truck D-Max. Isuzu is the first company to introduce an EV in the pick-up truck segment in India.
The EV version of the D-Max will be identical to the diesel powertrain by sharing the same ladder on frame chassis and replacing the powerful diesel engine with battery and motors. Let’s deep down into what features and powertrains the D-Max EV will be featuring.
Isuzu D-Max EV Design
Visually, the D-Max EV will share similar styling and features with the facelifted model, which was launched in the international markets in the year 2024. The Indian version we get here is quite old and a generation old, so the D-Max EV will retain many features from the diesel versions such as
- A touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity.
- A Digital Driver Display, dual-zone climate control, parking sensors both front and rear.
- Currently, the D-Max EV will feature heated front seats and will only be available in a double-cab configuration.
Isuzu D-Max EV Battery & Motors
The D-Max EV is quite a heavy car, typically pick-up trucks need extra power while doing off-roads. To achieve this, Isuzu has used two electric motors for D-Max EV, one on each side of the axle.
With the integration of two motors, Isuzu claims a 0-100 Kph time of just 10.1 seconds and an electronically controlled top speed of 125 Kph, which is quite substantial for this size of car. The motors generate energy through a 66.9 kWh battery pack that is attached under the floor of this big SUV.
POWER: The combined power of twin electric motors generate 190 Hp of maximum power and 325 Nm of peak torque, providing a WLTP-certified range of 262 Km on a single charge. The D-Max EV also supports faster charging at 50 kW, with a 20-80% charge in just one hour. However, one thing to note is the range which is significantly on a lower side compared to modern EV standards.
Isuzu D-Max Offroading Ability
Isuzu is confident that the batteries won’t impact D-max’s offroading expertise, as the EV gets an impressive 210 mm of ground clearance and a water wading depth of 600mm. The Approach angle measures 30.5 degrees, while the Departure angle is 24.2 degrees.
The D-Max electric motors will be integrated to a tried and tested four-wheel drive transmission and uses the same platform in the regular D-Max. In addition to this, Isuzu has attached a BeSpoke De Dion rear suspension system in place of leaf springs, available on the Diesel powertrain. The company explains that the revised suspension will result in improved handling and superior ride and comfort.
Rough Terrain Mode: Isuzu has also provided a dedicated Rough Terrain Mode for the D-Max EV, which is specifically developed for “Extreme Off-Roading Capability”.
Isuzu claims that the EV can haul more than 1,000 Kg in its load bed and has a towing ability of up to 3,500 Kg. However, the company has not clarified what impact the off-roading will have on the range. This robust pickup truck weighs in at 2,350 kg when empty.
