Kia EV6 Ownership Review: Real Range, Battery Health, Service & Truth

Kia’s first electric car for India, the EV6 is just magnificent in looks and turns many heads when you take it for a spin. Thus many consumers want to know how it performs in real-world conditions and how it feels to own a luxury EV. Our AllAboutEVs team did an ownership review of the Kia EV6 to find out whether this premium electric car is worth justifying your price or not.

We recently had a talk with Kunal, the proud owner of the Kia EV6 as he gave us an unbiased review of this beast. Interestingly, Kunal is among the first few customers in India to get a fully imported car through Completely Built Unit (CBU) route. 

He has covered a total of 5,000 Km in this AWD EV6 and has done various exciting trips across Haryana. Let us give you his initial experience of the car. 

Exceptional Design & Practicality 

Visually, the Kia EV6 is a stunner and many people can mistake it for an Aston Martin, especially in the Matt black shade. The design adds to the aerodynamic efficiency and overall appeal. But apart from its aggressive design, it is ultra practical too as the cabin is extremely roomy. The flat rear floor is completely flat, thus can accommodate three adults with ease. 

The shoulder room and under-thigh support is also good. The EV6 can easily accommodate 520-litres of boot space which is ideal for weekend highway trips. The AWD model gets a smaller trunk, but it provides ample space to store some knick-knacks.

Kia EV6 Features & Safety

On the inside, the cabin of the Kia EV6 feels like sitting in an advanced cockpit. The owner praised the stunning dual display, which is the highlight of the dashboard. The car also features luxurious tech which includes a 14-speaker Meridian audio system, 360-Degree Camera with bird’s eye view, electric adjustable seats, and a wireless charger. 

Kia has not compromised with safety and offers 8 airbags and 5-star Euro NCAP rating. It also includes ADAS Level 2 features, however the owner has not tested the autonomous driving on the Indian roads yet.

Kia EV6 Real-World Range and Charging Truth 

RANGE: Let’s discuss one of the key challenges for EV buyers; the real-world range. Kia officially claims 528 Km of range. But according to Kunal, he easily got a real-world range of 500 Km. This was achieved by smartly utilizing regenerative braking on highways and due to this he was able to comfortably extract 550 Km. 

CHARGING: Kia provides a wallbox charger that takes 5-6 hours to fully charge the battery. However, for frequent road trips, there is also an inclusion of a portable charger, making charging convenient. 

Kia EV6 Performance & Service Experience 

This is where the Kia EV6 is truly a beast. The AWD setup comes with four driving modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, and Snow. One of the best things about EV6 is it just explodes in Eco mode, as the acceleration is quite aggressive. Just switch to sport mode, and the EV6 can go from 0-100 km/hr in a remarkable five seconds. It feels like maneuvering a jet plane. 

SERVICE: According to the owner’s experience, his maintenance experience was seamless and hassle-free as primarily, the service involves deep cleaning and some routine check-ups. 

The Final Verdict 

When we asked about some negative points of the EV6, the owner Kunal replied with a simple statement, “There are absolutely none.” The owner is very happy with his purchase and impressed by its stellar design and exceptional acceleration with a highly practical range, which is more than enough for your daily drives and weekend trips. 

Thus, the Kia EV6 seems like a perfect balance between sports car and everyday practicality.
