Maharashtra has created a revised Electric Vehicle Policy for 2025. The policy will be implemented till 2030 and will be concentrated towards transition of state’s transport sector and eradication of environment issues by reducing the carbon emissions and promoting sustainable ecosystem.

Framework for Financial Allocation and Policy

The Government of Maharashtra has approved 1,993 Crores to implement the EV Policy for the next five years. The Policy is focussed towards complete EV adoption by growing the charging infrastructure by ensuring sustainable transportation, which will lead to economic growth of the state.

The policy will also support renewable energy generation and help preserve energy security, which will help the government to develop EV charging facilities within every 25 Km on state and national highways.

Maharashtra aims to reach zero net carbon emissions by the year 2030. To achieve this, the policy covers several incentives for both business and consumers. Let’s discuss these.

  • here is a 10% discount for passenger mobility vehicles, as the policy has a framework which provides 10% discount on original price for passenger electric two wheelers, three wheelers, four-wheelers, state transport scheme buses (M3, M4), and buses from the special urban transport scheme.
  • The Policy offers 15% discount on goods vehicles such as 3Ws, four wheelers, four wheeler LCVs, four-wheeled goods carriers (N2, N3) and electric tractors, and single-axis cutting machines specifically designed for agricultural activities.
  • The Policy will also provide complete exemption of toll fees for electric four-wheelers travelling on major highways which includes the Mumbai-Pune Yashwant Rao Chavaan Expressway, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Shivdi-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu, and Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg.
  • The Policy also addresses a 50% discount on toll fees which will be issued on four-wheeler electric vehicles on the state and national highways, coming under the Public Works Department
