Maruti MD Takeuchi states that smaller EVs will be introduced once the charging infrastructure is prepared.
Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce small EVs in their lineup, once it develops their charging infrastructure, which helps to support the country’s EV ecosystem.
The CEO and Managing Director of Maruti Suzuki, Hisashi Takeuchi, expressed his views on the company's annual general meeting and said, “As soon as our EV charging will be completely developed for India, we will expand our electric lineup with small EVs.”
Maruti Suzuki’s Charging Network Strategy
In order to enhance the charging network, Maruti has partnered with 13 charge-point operators and has already established more than 2,000 exclusive charging points across 1,100 cities. The company is also working to improve charging connectivity on highways and expressways, while it is planning to set up 100 city calls for chargers at key locations spanning in the area of 5-10 Km.

The manufacturer is also aiming to target more than 1,00,000 charging points across India by the end of this decade. The company will be introducing smaller EVs in order to expand their charging network.
Currently, Maruti only sells the e Vitara as its only EV in India, while key rivals like Tata Motors and JSW MG Motor India have smaller electric models on sale. Maruti Suzuki is also expanding electric vehicle exports as Japan has emerged as Maruti’s second-largest market, as per Takeuchi.
At the same time, the company is expecting trade agreements to create further export opportunities in markets which include the UK, Germany and France.
