BYD Yangwang U8 SUV Design & Looks
This beefy SUV is built on a 3,050mm wheelbase, which is huge, offering tons of space inside. Dimension wise it stands at 5,319mm long, 2,050mm wide and 1,930mm high. To put size into context, it's even longer than Land Rover and Mercedes-Benz.
The design of the U8 is boxy and looks like a traditional 3 box SUV. It has a slab-slided profile with a glossy black finish for the squared-out wheel arches. The grille is covered with Pixel-type patterns which are seamlessly matching with the lights.
The rear quarter glass area has some horizontal strakes which highlights the look. U8 has flush-type door handles for better aerodynamics. The tail-lights are styled with the same pixelated pattern present in the grille. We liked the large rear-mounted spare wheel added to the back to give it a traditional SUV feel in the 90s.

According to the global specifications, U8 will be coming with a 12.8-inch central touchscreen, present beside a driver’s display and at the front passenger screen measuring 23.6 inches. The AC vents are provided at the top of the dashboard, presenting a nice waterfall effect.

- Safety features are as follows: Level 2 ADAS working in sync with 38 sensors, three LiDAR sensors, 13 cameras and 12 ultrasonic radars.
- The U8 can rival the likes of BMW X7, Mercedes-Benz GLS and Land Rover.

Performance and Battery
The U8 weighs around 3,500kg and to power this heavy SUV, BYD has given a 49.1 kWh battery ( powering four motors) combined with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine giving power to a generator. Combined power is rated at 1,200 HP at 1280 NM of torque, with the 0-100kph speed coming in about 3.6 seconds.
Yangwang is aiming at a combined range of 1,000 Km with the U8 which is substantial. However, at electric only mode U8 can achieve 180 KM of claimed range as per the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).
