MG ZS EV Real-World Range Analysis
The ZS EV is one of the first electric cars from MG and comes with a single 50.3 kWh battery pack that generates a maximum power output of 177 Hp and peak torque of 280 Nm. Our AllAboutEVs team had a talk with the owner of ZS EV in order to know his real-world range he is able to churn out from his car.
According to the user, the MG ZS EV range in actual use is 339 Km on a single charge, with a significant efficiency of 6.7 km/kWh. He shared full details of his range test from home to office drive in Mumbai traffic, with a mix of city and highway driving.
MG ZS EV 50.3 kWh battery real world range test (100% to 0%)
The ZS EV was at 100% SOC during the start of the test period as per the user and provided a range of 339 Km on a single charge. The user started at 8:26 AM as it took around 45 mins to drive from Andheri East to Airoli and the average speed was 28 km/hr. The user drove at a constant speed of 70 km/hr and the efficiency achieved was 8 km/unit.
Thus with all the maths, he got an ideal range of 339 Km on a single charge. According to the user, lighter EVs can extract more range from the battery, but this vehicle weighs >1600 Kg.
MG ZS EV Range Test Settings
As per user, the range test was conducted with A/C turned off, as the A/C can eat 10% of the total range, so as per test it was not totally realistic. However, the user wanted to do another range test with A/C sometime next week.
The user also shared that he did few medium-long drives with this and never faced range anxiety. He typically does a monthly trip to Karjat and at least once in 2 months goes on a 600 Km+ round trip. He also added that tyre pressure plays a big role in EV efficiency as adding 3 PSI can result in a 4% increase in overall range.
