Tata Power & Tata Passenger Electric Mobility have marked a major milestone for India’s EV infrastructure as they will be collaborating to develop Mumbai’s first Tata.ev MegaCharger hub, and this is more of an achievement in the field of EVs rather than a technological advancement, thus solidifying the charging infrastructure of the country. 

The hub has been organized at the Leela Mumbai Hotel, which is near to Terminal 2 of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The location is strategically selected in order to serve a majority of the EV users which ranges from private car owners to commercial ride fleets and even travellers who are travelling from the city. 

What Makes This Hub Unique?

The MegaCharger hub was established in order to enhance the quality and speed of the charging in India. The hub has been open to all and apart from city commuters, the hub can be also utilized by professionals, tourists, and hotel guests who want effective charging.

  • A total of Eight fast DC chargers which can support a peak power of up to 120 kW.
  • There were a total of 16 charging bays, which means the hub has a capacity to charge a total of 16 EVs at a time. 
  • Charging is available 24*7, thus allowing flexibility to drivers to charge their EVs anytime, according to their preferences.
  •  The hub is completely powered by renewable energy, which is under the joint control of Tata Power’s ‘Sustainable is Attainable’ drive. 

Reactions from the Launch

The CEO & MD of Tata Power, Dr. Praveer Sinha, expressed his views on the inauguration of Charging Hub that the new hub has redefined their vision towards building a sustainable yet effective charging infrastructure which is ready for future charging solutions. He also highlighted that the similar vision will be soon applied to the other Indian cities also. 

The MD of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility & Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Shailesh Chandra also expressed further by saying that, “Tata has always been at the forefront of EV revolution by ensuring a strong charging infrastructure and by providing high-quality EV cars that provide higher efficiency and sustainability.” 

He also expressed that the MegaCharger initiative will be boosting more towards EV adoption by making EV ownership a delightful experience.

Current Charging Network of Tata Power :-

  • 5,500+ public and private chargers. 
  • 1.4 Lakh+ Home Chargers. 
  • 1,200+ chargers for commercial electric buses distributed across 630+ towns and cities. 
  • The company has also made their long-term goals which includes establishing 7.5 lakh home chargers and 10,000 public points up to 2030.
