PM Modi’s visit has fruitful impacts as Elon Musk-owned Tesla is making its third effort to enter into the Indian Market. The US manufacturing company has started hiring for new roles in the country, just after PM Modi’s meeting with Musk.

However, this is not the first time Tesla has tried to enter the Indian market as it had tried twice, but both attempts were unsuccessful. We hope to see whether it will succeed this time.

Tesla Looking For Retail Stores and Setup

Tesla has started hiring in India by opening more than 13 job openings as it is preparing to open their retail showrooms. The company is searching for potential showroom locations, so that they can set up their operations in India.

The current cheapest car in Tesla’s lineup is the Model 3, priced at around $30,000. There were also discussions about mobility, technology, and Tesla’s expansion plans in India.

However Tesla is all set to launch another new model in the US by June, which would be cheaper than Model 3, and according to sources, this could be the first model of Tesla launched in India. Is India Ready For Tesla?

The Indian Government has reduced the import taxes on luxury EVs, from 110% to 70%. This significant reduction will reduce the extra costs, and Tesla’s vehicles will be more affordably priced, as compared to its international counterparts.

The Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA), reported that electric cars in India increased 19.93%, from 82,688 cars sold in 2023 to 99,165 cars sold in 2024.

As demand for electric cars is increasing in India, For Tesla, it is a great opportunity and perfect time to enter India. Although the pricing needs to be smartly done as its competitors like Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra are offering cheap EV options and have already disrupted the segment by their latest EV offerings.

Despite these challenges, India’s growth in the sustainable energy generation and this revolutionary transition to EVs happening in the country can benefit Tesla.

The market demand and legislative incentives are two most important factors for any new manufacturer entering the Indian market, thus the company will be starting with imports before looking for local manufacturing.
