Tesla Inc has made its entry into the top 10 for reliability in ‘Consumer Reports’ rankings, which is a big step for the electric manufacturer that was just a new entrant a few years ago. The company also improved its build quality and was acclaimed as a ‘standout’ electric drive system.

Tesla achieved ninth position out of 26 brands tested, up from 17th year. Back in 2022, Tesla was ranked at the 27th position out of 28 brands. The rise in position has come despite various issues with electronically controlled doors, a recent technology which raised several problems in the automotive industry.

Tesla was also criticised for not updating the design of their cars and putting pressure on sales with the old units. However, the aging designs are actually helping to increase Tesla’s overall sales, when it comes to reliability because the quality of cars are superior, as per Consumer reports.

The Senior Director for auto testing, Consumer Reports, Jake Fisher stated that, “Tesla has not suddenly evolved, but they are manufacturing vehicles in the same plant that are quite similar in operations and are thoroughly improved to a greater extent. Continuing the older portfolio results in a greater reliability.”

Tesla’s first model, the Model S was first launched in the market in 2011, but has evolved over the last 14 years, as stated by Fisher.

Tesla’s rock solid reliability has made a strong foothold for Tesla in the Top 10 Consumer Reports, which is more likely an “Automotive Report Card” which also sheds light on road test scores, safety performance and consumer satisfaction. The report card was calculated by the data of about 3,80,000 vehicles, which is a 27% increase over the last year.

However, Toyota Moto Corp. has achieved a top position in this year’s rankings for the first time since 2022, thus bridging the gap between last year’s winner Subaru Corp. as it ranked No 1 in the overall brand report.
