The Volvo EX90, a leading electric vehicle, has been upgraded with new hardware and software features.

Volvo has upgraded the hardware and software of its flagship EV in India, the EX90. The company started the deliveries of the EX90 globally in the early months of 2025 and could launch the electric SUV in India by the end of this year with several performance enhancements.
Volvo EX90 Hardware Updates
Volvo has not brought changes to the design department, although has upgraded the hardware by introducing the company’s all-new 800-Volt electric system in the EX90, which has replaced the older 400V technology, in order to generate more power and faster charging speeds.
The system will enhance the charging speed of the EX90 from 250kW to 350kW, which ensures a substantial addition of 250 Km of range in just 10 minutes of fast charging.
Volvo EX90 Software Upgrades
The significant software enhancements include replacement of the Nvidia Xavier chip by two new Nvidia Drive AGX Orin chips. Volvo claims that these new chips can produce 500 TOPS (Trillion operations per second), thus enhancing the computing performance of the EX90.
The Chief Technology and Engineering Officer at Volvo cars has said that these chips enable to further improve the safety and overall performance of the electric SUV.
Volvo EX90 New Safety Features
Volvo is known for its superior safety standards and has updated the safety features of the EX90 as it includes a new functionality to steer away from pedestrians and cyclists in the dark by identifying them through radar sensors. It also provides new safety alerts for slippery roads and accidents ahead, and has updated its automatic parking capabilities.
It has also added automatic e-Call features with Emergency Stop Assist (ESA), which has been specifically designed to automatically bring the car to a complete stop in case of an emergency or accident, or in the cases of a driver becoming unconscious. It also automatically connects to the service center integrated with Volvo support.
Currently in case of emergency situations, the user has to manually alert the Volvo On Call service center by pressing the SOS button.
Volvo EX90 India Vision
Volvo is actively implementing its goal to enhance their electric lineup in India and has just launched their entry level EV, the EX30 electric SUV. It completes the existing EV portfolio that includes the EX40 SUV and its coupe version, the EC40.
The flagship EX90 electric SUV was displayed for the first time in 2022, as the company’s flagship 7-seater EV, thus available as an electric counterpart of their existing SUV, the XC90, which is the company’s flagship SUV with ICE powertrains and is currently on sale in India.
However, when the EX90 will be launched in the Indian market, it will be more costly than XC90, which is available in India at an introductory price of Rs 96 lakh to Rs 1.05 crore for the top-spec model.
