The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari has officially opened India’s first battery swapping station exclusively for heavy-duty electric trucks. This facility comes with swap-cum charging station which is situated at NH44 in Ganaur district, Sonipat, Haryana. The event was also attended by H.D. Kumaraswamy, Minister of Heavy Industries and Public enterprises of India. 

This facility is launched with a joint partnership with ‘Energy In Motion’ company. This station is a big testament towards India’s speedy transition towards clean energy solutions. This strategic move is also encouraged by the government as it follows the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Energy Independence 2047 and Net Zero 2070. 

What advantages does this facility offer?

This new facility is capable of providing super-fast battery swaps in just seven minutes, as compared to the usual two-hour charging process. This innovation will enhance the efficiency of logistics and will ensure reduction of operational costs and will bring down carbon emissions at a massive scale, thus accelerating India towards clean energy. 

According to officials, this technology will be transforming the electric industry of the country’s commercial vehicle segment and will reduce the dependence on internal combustion engines.
