Bajaj Auto is working on the development of an all-new electric motorcycle platform defined as “Vigorous R&D Push” by the Executive Director of Bajaj Auto, Rakesh Sharma. This upcoming electric architecture will be completely engineered locally and will be underpinning a wide range of motorcycle segments.

Bajaj’s Next Step in India’s EV Industry.

This strategic move comes after the electric two-wheeler industry has witnessed a major growth as big two wheeler manufacturers like Royal Enfield has recently introduced their second prototype at the EICMA 2025 held in Milan, while other Indian startups like Ultraviolette, Revolt and Oben are constantly trying to establish themselves in the Indian EV industry.

Rakesh Sharma also defined the upcoming platform during the company’s Q2 FY26 earnings call and said, “There are some segments, both in entry-level and high-end sporting in India and international markets, but it is still very early to predict. However, we are still in this competitive stage.”

He also added that the company is investing heavily in EV technology so that the company is prepared to cater according to the demand in the particular segment. He further added that, “Currently, Nobody can confirm whether it would be bullseye or not, but i think there is a much greater loss from missing out from an opportunity.”

The electric motorcycle project is completely developed domestically, depending on Bajaj’s core engineering expertise from their ICE motorcycles manufacturing units and utilising the learnings from their hugely popular Chetak Technology (CTL), the subsidiary company which just redefined Bajaj Auto in electric mobility.

The Bajaj Chetak also garnered the top position on the Vahan retail charts, thus Bajaj is relying heavily on Chetak’s technology and will be integrating it into their upcoming electric motorcycle market.

According to various Industry statistics, the share of electric motorcycles is less than 1% of total two-wheelers in India, as the segment is untapped due to high battery costs, limited range, and absence of developed EV infrastructure.

Bajaj Auto Vision for E-Motorcycles

The upcoming E-Motorcycle programme is the core strategy of Bajaj Auto’s and will be enhancing their EV roadmap which includes updating the Chetak lineup, new three-wheeler EVs, and export-oriented small-format electrics as the company is looking for a strong foothold in India’s clean energy market.

According to Bajaj Auto, the electric motorcycle market is expected to reignite the revolution of EVs which is based on a calculative approach that will ensure that they evolve in this segment, whenever the category significantly rises.
