As India’s electric industry continues to rise, BMW Group India is aiming to be a key player in the premium EV segment. BMW is also keen on Tesla’s entry into the Indian EV space and is considering it as an indication of growth in the premium segment.

The Managing Director of BMW Group India, Vikram Pawah, feels competition is important for market growth. “We have analysed the international markets, and witnessed that additional players improve the market instead of contracting it,” he further added, “The entry of Tesla will increase awareness, demand and infrastructure development for EVs in India.

BMW’s Market Positioning

BMW has played a key role in revolutionizing electric mobility for a long time and has maintained steady growth. In 2024, the company sold more than 4.26 Lakh fully-electric vehicles worldwide, with constant double-digit growth from the BMW and MINI brands. That momentum is visible in India too.

BMW Group India claims they have sold more than 600 electric cars in India in Q1 2025, which is a half of the EVs sold in 2024.

Thus BMW is preparing to manufacture EVs on a larger scale and will be expanding its electric lineup of premium cars. The company is also optimistic about India’s growing EV market.
