The BMW Group is continually pushing ahead to reduce its environmental impact as they are using fully electric trucks at their sites at Regensburg and Leipzig to transport their parts and are sending an important message that the future of logistics is electric.

BMW is also testing hybrid-electric trucks with range extenders in order to make the electric transport reliable and its ease of use in less predictable routes. With the development of charging infrastructures and strategic alliances with leading companies, BMW is slowly mainstreaming the use of electric mobility with commercial vehicles.

By using these electric trucks, BMW is making transport more efficient and reliable. They are also contributing in reducing the environmental impact as these electric vehicles are silent and help to keep the noise levels down in these plants.

BMW’s Innovative Charging Technologies

In order to make their electric fleet more efficient, BMW is utilising advanced charging infrastructures. In Regensburg, the fast-chargers keep the trucks continually in operation and avoid lengthy charging top-ups. The charging points are specially designed to meet the energy needs of heavy vehicles and are renewable that reduces their carbon footprint as well.

BMW is also aiming for long-term investments in innovative charging technologies in order to set new benchmarks in the industry. It also shows that heavy-duty logistics can be highly efficient and at the same time can be environmentally feasible too. This could inspire other companies to electrify their logistics operations as well.

BMW Group Testing Hybrid-Electric Trucks

As BMW is currently operating with fully-electric commercial trucks for their in-plant logistics. BMW is also partnering with DHL Group and are jointly testing hybrid-electric trucks for day-to-day operations. The vehicle mainly utilises electric power, generating its electricity with range extender, when needed.
