Tata Motors is temporarily suspending its Altroz EV plans. Here’s the Reason Why?

In the market, Tata Motors has recently launched the facelifted Altroz premium hatchback, beginning at a price of Rs 6.89 Lakh (Ex-Showroom). Powered by Petrol, Diesel, and CNG options, with manual, DCA and AMT transmissions. The surprising fact is that Tata Altroz is the only premium hatchback in the market to offer a diesel engine.
There were various speculations that Tata Motors will be soon working on the electric version of Altroz. This could have represented the sixth addition to the all-electric collection, joining the Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, and Curvv EV. But now the company has temporarily suspended its plans of introducing Altroz EV.
The Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle Ltd and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, Shailesh Chandra expressed his views on this and said that the company has temporarily halted its plans for introducing Altroz EV as there is an overcrowded situation in the market, and thus no price point for the car to be positioned in the market currently.
The company had earlier displayed the Altroz EV in the production form and was expected to be priced between Rs 5 lakh to Rs 8 Lakh price range, Regrettably, the launch has been canceled due to intense competition and the lack of a defined price range for positioning the Altroz EV.
Chandra stated further and clarified that, “When we already have three products in the market at Rs 5-8 Lakh price range, then there is no purpose to position one more Altroz EV as the fourth EV in the same price range, especially when there is a certain size specified in the segment.”
Will Altroz EV ever launch in India?
Chandra also elaborated further that the Altroz EV project has been paused because looking at the market dynamics, there is no need for an extra fourth option in Rs 5-8 Lakh price bracket. He also said that the company has not stopped the project completely and will cancel the plan of Altroz EV.
He clarified that the company is waiting for a suitable market environment and will launch the car at that time phase, so technically the launch of the car is not cancelled but delayed.
He said, “In future, if there is a need then we will be definitely bringing the Altroz EV on the Indian roads but looking at the current market situation, the launch is not happening, and we are keeping the project on hold for now.”
