Rolls Royce has decided to shift back its plans to going all electric by 2030 as quoted by CEO of the company, Chris Brownridge confirmed to the times by citing relaxed regulatory and legislative targets by governments around the globe and decreasing customer demand.

Brownridge further expressed that the earlier strategy was formulated on different circumstances, but the market dynamics has been completely changed now.

He further added that, “We have analysed that some clients are still preferring a V12 engine, as the V12 plays an important role in the foundation of our history. As for every client who loves an EV, there is one who does not. Some clients definitely want an EV and we work according to what is ordered.”

V12 will continue to Sell

Currently, the entire lineup of Rolls Royce’s combustion-engine cars which includes the Ghost and Phantom sedans utilize a V12 and as the company has dropped its plans to go all-electric by 2030, their first EV is currently under development and is expected to be introduced sometime this year.

A prototype was spotted testing recently in Sweden, having blocky and upright proportions, thus having a striking resemblance to the Cullinan but styled with unique details.

Several Manufacturers have revised their EV strategy

Rolls Royce is just another company added to the list of brands revising their EV strategies. Volvo has also dropped their target of having only EVs in their lineup from 2030. Even Bentley has pushed their targets to become an EV-only manufacturer from 2030 to 2035. Other companies like Lamborghini and Porsche are also rethinking their EV plans.
