Ultra Tech Cement, an Aditya Birla company has announced plans to expand its electric vehicle fleet in its logistics operations to 600+ EV trucks by December 2026. The company has signed service contracts with leading EV prime manufacturers such as Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, IPLTech, Energy in Motion and Sany along with other subsidiary companies and third-party logistic providers. 

The total fleet of 600+ EV trucks will deliver more than five million MT of clinker and other key materials per annum across Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Odisha.

Once it is in full running, the fleet of 600+ EV trucks will be providing a net annual CO2 reduction of more than 1,17,000 tonnes, which is equivalent to 39 million litres of diesel each year. 

The Managing Director of Ultra Tech Cement Limited, Mr K C Jhanwar, expressed his views on this and said, “UltraTech is expanding green mobility beyond its plants by adopting sustainable logistics practices. This big transition to eco-friendly logistics will be focussing on de-carbonising every link of our value chain and aiming to achieve net zero emissions.”

Ultra Tech is the leader in advancing sustainable cement transport in the cement industry, thus it is the first cement company to implement the deployment of heavy-duty commercial electric trucks for long-haul commercial transport of clinker and other materials at big scale. 

The company is the first to introduce green logistics, as they will deploy CNG trucks in 2021 and electric trucks in 2024. Currently, Ultra Tech is operating 850+ trucks as a part of its green logistics network, which includes CNG and electric trucks.
