Montra Electric delivers the PM E-Drive-certified Rhino 5538 EV to UltraTech.

Montra Electric has received the certification under the Government of India’s PM E-Drive scheme for its heavy-duty commercial electric trucks. Under this scheme, the company has delivered its first PM E-Drive certified commercial electric truck, the Rhino 5538 EV 6*4 tractor trailer, to UltraTech Cement Limited on 28 January 2026 in Manesar.

This handover was under the presence of Chairman of Montra Electric, Arun Murugappan, Jalaj Gupta, MD of Montra Electric, and Sathia Raj, Chief Procurement Officer, UltraTech Cement Limited also graced the occasion. 

According to the company, the certification will promote the adoption of electric heavy-duty in various industries like logistics, mining, infrastructure, and manufacturing. 

The PM E-Drive has total funds of Rs 10,900 crore, out of which Rs 500 crore will be allocated for e-trucks. As per Montra Electric, this could lead to further incentives of up to Rs 9.6 lakh per vehicle for the Rhino 5538 EV. 

Rhino 5538 EV Technical Details

The Rhino 5538 EV comes with 6*4 and 4*2 variant options. The 4*2 variant provides options of fixed battery as well as battery swapping options, which also includes a six-minute swap feature. 

POWER: The Rhino 5538 EV is powered by a 282 kWh LFP battery and generates a maximum power output of 380 HP and a peak torque of 2000 Nm, offering a range of 198 Km on a single charge under normal operating conditions. 

According to Montra Electric, this model is specifically catered for applications like port operations, mining, cement logistics, steel plants, and long-haul freight routes. The company also stated that they are planning to work with customers, policy makers, and ecosystem partners to accelerate the adoption of electric heavy-duty trucks in India.
