Montra Electric HCV, which is a clean mobility company under the Murugappa Group are all set to soon launch their manufacturing facility in Manesar Haryana, exclusively focussing on eHCV (electric heavy commercial vehicle).

The plant will also be the India’s first all-women operated fully automated battery manufacturing unit, and will be utilising Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) striking a perfect balance with conveyor lines for production, expanded across 2,55,000 square feet, with a built-up area of 1,50,000 square feet. 

The manufacturing facility will have a total production capacity of 6000 units per annum divided on a two-shift basis, which can be further ramped up to 7,500 units by providing additional shifts. It has been developed accordingly in order to manufacture diverse product variants, which includes the Rhino EV series and upcoming models. 

Montra Electric HCV Plant Details

This facility will be working with 60% robot integration and following the guidelines of 4.0 digital manufacturing practices. It will also feature local battery pack assembly capacity of 1.7 GWh, followed by the testing infrastructure like E&E labs, QA labs, battery pack cyclers, roll and brake testers, wheel alignment systems, headlamp aiming, and shower testing facilities.

It will also consist of R&D and prototype workshops. Montra Electric will be sourcing 74% of components locally, which excludes imported cells. The Manesar plant will be also focussing on implementing sustainable practices such as battery recycling, waste management, and development of local charging infrastructure. The facility has also planned future expansion phases which will include renewable energy. 

The company will be also organising community engagement activities like skill development programs and environmental campaigns. 

The Chief Business Officer of Montra Electric, Mr P.V. Satyanarayan expressed his views on the inauguration of the manufacturing facility and said, “The inauguration of our EV truck factory in Manesar is a big step towards India’s adoption of eco-friendly logistics. This highly advanced manufacturing facility blends scale, flexibility and world-class quality, followed by modular lines capable of producing diverse products and advanced digital manufacturing tools.

The company is also eligible for benefits under the PM E-Drive Scheme and will be going for additional state level benefits for expanding its manufacturing capabilities.
