The BMW i5 LWB has been launched with a price tag of Rs 79.6 lakh.

BMW has introduced the i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB) in India at a starting price of Rs 79.6 Lakh. This electric sedan is also the brand’s first locally manufactured model in India and will be produced at BMW Group’s Chennai facility. 

The company has started accepting the pre-bookings for the i5 LWB in August and will be offered in single eDrive35L M Sport variant. However, the company has also provided a limited-run First Edition at the same price, with all 99 units already sold. 

BMW i5 LWB Powertrain and Range

POWER: The i5 eDrive35L is powered by a single electric motor that generates maximum power output of 268 Hp and peak torque of 410 Nm. It comes in rear-wheel drive configuration and can accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in just 6.7 seconds, while the top speed is claimed at 195 km/hr. 

It comes equipped with a 81.6 kWh battery pack that provides 669 Km of claimed range on a single charge specifically under the MIDC certified range. The i5 LWB comes with 160 kW DC fast charging, with BMW claiming a 10-80% charge in just 33 minutes. The i5 also supports AC charging up to 11 kW with a BMW Wallbox charger, including installation.

BMW i5 LWB Design 

Dimension-wise, the electric sedan measures 5,175 mm in length, 2,156 mm in width, and 1,520 mm in height, with a significant wheelbase of 3,105 mm. Visually, the i5 LWD is complimented with a BMW’s signature illuminated kidney grille, adaptive LED headlights and 20-inch M alloy wheels. 

The sedan also comes with wraparound LED tail-lights, a welcome light and a white ‘5’ branding on the C-Pillar. It also comes finished with the M Sport package, which includes M-specific front and rear bumpers with black high-gloss inserts, an M-styled steering wheel, and two-tone leather upholstery.

Suspension: The i5 LWB also features adaptive rear-axle air suspension as standard, as BMW has claimed that the suspension has been increased exclusively for Indian road conditions. It also comes with 20-inch alloy wheels paired with 245/45 R20 tyres at the front and wider 275/40 R20 tyres at the rear. 

BMW i5 LWB Features 

The i5 LWB has got an updated interior as it includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen interface. It also gets four-zone climate control, electrically adjustable front seats with ventilation, ambient lighting that runs across the dashboard and panoramic glass roof. 

The rear passengers also get separate air conditioning controls, a center armrest with two cup holders and wireless charging. The feature list also includes a 17-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, BMW Digital Key Plus and USB C-Ports.

The safety features include 8 airbags, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane departure warning, front collision warning, rear cross-traffic warning and tyre pressure monitoring. It also gets a 360-Degree camera, front and rear parking sensors and remote parking via smartphone.
