The BYD eMax 7 is a premium electric MPV from BYD and comes powered with an option of a 55.4 kWh and a substantial 71.8 kWh battery pack. We recently had a talk with the owner of the BYD eMax 7 in order to know the real-world range he is able to extract with the electric MPV.

According to the user, the BYD eMax 7 provided a real-world range between 460-470 km in mixed driving conditions. The owner had a top-spec 7-seater variant equipped with a larger 71.8 kWh battery pack. BYD claims an impressive 530 Km of range on a single charge, but the owner did a real-world range test to know the exact range.

The drive started in Chennai with heavy stop-and-go traffic for some time. After coming out of city limits, the journey started on the highway heading towards Puducherry. The route was a mix of driving conditions ranging from bumper-to-bumper traffic to smooth highway cruising.

The owner drove till Chennai airport drop-off, and the eMax 7’s trip meter showed exceptional range of 444.3 Km with 3% battery SOC, displaying an estimated 17 Km of range left. Thus after doing the math under realistic driving conditions with AC continually running, the BYD eMax 7 provided a seamless real-world range test of around 460-470 Km.

Thus for a heavy electric MPV weighing around two tons, achieving over 85% of claimed range is absolutely exceptional. Thus if you are looking for a family EV that genuinely provides you enough range on the go, the eMax 7 is a perfect choice. Below we have mentioned BYD eMax 7 Claimed vs Actual Range.

In order to extract the real-world range, the owner was not hypermiling an empty stretch of road on a perfect highway, instead the real range was extracted by a practical road trip:

  • Driving Mode: The Eco mode was switched on for the entire trip in order to maximise the range.
  • Climate Control: The AC was kept on the whole time, because let’s be real, nobody will be driving a premium electric MPV without AC in hot climatic conditions.
  • Occupancy: There are a total of two passengers on board.
  • Speed Limits: The owner maintained steady cruising speeds by keeping the vehicles in the range of 80-85 km/hr.
