CATL redefining the future of EVs by providing 500 Km of Range in just 5 minutes

Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. (CATL) is just revolutionarising the world of EVs and taking electric mobility to another level with three exciting advancements in the EV sector. CATL stands as the premier manufacturer of lithium batteries globally, supplying major electric vehicle brands such as Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, and Polestar.

Shenxing Next Generation Batteries and Gen 2 Fast Charging

The Chinese company has introduced their latest generation of Shenxing batteries, which is an all new battery supporting high levels of fast charging as well as exceptional driving range and performance. 

CATL claims that the upcoming Shenxing batteries will offer an impressive range of 520 Km after only 5 minutes of fast charging, translating to an astonishing 2.6 Km per minute of driving range added every second, yep you read that right!!

These numbers are even more than set industry standards giving the CATL a benchmark in EV charging. For Example, BYD’s new 1 MW charging system gives a range of 400 Km in ten minutes, thus making CATL’s system blazing fast by two times. 

Thus CATL has reduced the time of charging to 5 minutes by making it equal to the time to add petrol and diesel in an ICE car, thus eradicating the longer charging time, which is the biggest hurdle of an EV buyer while buying EVs. 

A standout characteristic of Shenxing batteries is their remarkable resilience in frigid temperatures. CATL has claimed that the batteries can be charged from 5 to 80% in just 15 minutes, even at extreme winter situations, where climates are dipping to less than -10 degrees. This is a welcome innovation as EVs performance gets significantly affected in extreme winter conditions, where low temperatures impact the charging speed and reduces the efficiency of batteries. 

Freevoy Dual-Power Battery Technology

CATL is also developing a dual-battery technology which could provide an enormous range of 1500 Km on a single charge, as it integrates two batteries together. However, these batteries will be taking a longer charging time as compared to Shenxing batteries due to their dual chemistry. 

These dual power batteries are expected to take 30 minutes to juice up 100% battery. Another major highlight of this technology will be the batteries as it would be completely different from traditional lithium-ion batteries. These auxiliary batteries will not be dependent on graphite, thus ultimately having reduced costs and will be attached uniquely within the vehicle’s core structure. 

Naxtra Sodium Ion Battery Innovation

CATL will be producing Naxtra Sodium-Ion batteries which will be even more durable, and super reliant, which will be used in heavy commercial vehicles from December 2025. These batteries can withstand higher temperatures with ease by regulating 90% of their capacity. They will also have more than 10,000 charge cycles making them robust and reliable to use for a longer period of time. 

Through these innovations, CATL is raising the standard and enhancing the convenience and reliability of the EV industry, facilitating a successful shift towards electric vehicles.
