Chile, which is the driest place in the world, is actually a powerhouse for renewable energy. Chile’s Atacama desert is known for its high radiation, making it ideal for solar power generation. However, even in a solar-centric place, there is a universal problem that the sun eventually sets after a period of time.

Tesla’s Investment for Solar Energy

Tesla is finally capitalizing the climatic conditions of Chile and has installed 240 Tesla Megapacks directly from Shanghai. This massive installation is a testament to the solar powerhouse. These megapacks will be situated 70 Km from the city of Arica. These battery packs have the capability to store 900 MWh of power as this amount of power is enough to power the entire city of Arica.

These solar panels absorb incredible amounts of energy during the peak hours of the day. Once the night occurs, the disconnect of power becomes a big obstruction to renewable energy. However, the solution lies in capturing excess sunlight and saving it for the nighttime.

This is where the battery storage technology comes into play as the immense storage of batteries helps to bridge the gap between peak production and higher demand.

Renewable energy for Greener Future

This project is a pivotal step in Latin America, resulting in a successful strategic alliance between Tesla and the Chilean energy company, Colbun, which is more than just infrastructure, a big revolution of global transition to renewable energy generation, ensuring we can use electricity to power the EVs, and electric appliances with the help of green power.
