Ather SkidControl Explained: The Ultimate Traction Control for Electric Scooters
Ather is known for introducing revolutionary technologies in its electric scooters, one of the Ather’s self developed technologies is the SkidControl feature which prevents wheel spin on wet patch or loose gravel. Let’s understand this technology in detail.
What exactly is Ather SkidControl?
SkidControl is basically an advanced version of the Traction Control System (TCS) which is a standard feature in high-end performance bikes. Ather is the first company to bring this technology to the Indian electric scooter industry.
Whether its family-oriented Ather Rizta or performance-oriented Ather 450X, this feature enhances your handling and grip to the road.

How does this technology work?
Ather scooters are equipped with high-speed sensors which detect the wheel speed hundreds of times per second. The moment it detects that the rear wheel is rotating faster than the front (sign of skid), it instantly increases the motor's torque. By hampering the power in milliseconds, it regains traction even before you realise you are in danger.
Made for every Road
On the new 2025 Ather 450X, SkidControl comes with three different terrain modes
- Rain Mode: It takes control in slippery terrain, and monsoon-affected roads.
- Road Mode: It strikes a perfect balance for daily urban commutes.
- Rally Mode: It provides adequate “slip” for enthusiasts who are more into dirt-track fun without losing control.

Why is this an important feature?
Safety has achieved new standards, all thanks to the SkidControl feature as it ensures superior handling of electric scooters in sand, oil spills, or sudden rains that don’t hamper your ride. The SkidControl also provides confidence to the rider to navigate through unpredictable Indian roads with superior grip and handling.
