Ford has just electrified its Bronco SUV and has been introduced in the global markets. Defined as Ford Bronco New Energy, this substantial SUV has been totally designed with a completely new fascia and is jointly developed with Jiangling Motors in China. The Bronco SUV will be coming with multiple powertrains which comprises fully electric and extended-range hybrid models.

The Bronco has incorporated the original roots of the SUV family and has crafted a completely new vision for a core off-road oriented SUV.

Designed on the Same Platform

The new Bronco New Energy EV has been completely redesigned on the same platform and shares majority of design cues from its petrol-powered sibling Bronco and Bronco Sport, but still it is an all-new SUV.

According to the data from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), this new SUV has grown bigger in dimensions as it measures 5,025 mm in length, with a substantial wheelbase of 2,950 mm, making it in the category of full-size SUVs. Although it has become bulkier in comparison and weighs at 2,630 kg, making it one of the heaviest SUVs in its segment.

POWER: To pull this heavy SUV, Ford has powered dual motors attached at each axle. The front motor generates a peak power of 177 Bhp, while the rear produces 275 Bhp, providing a combined power output of 311 HP. This SUV can achieve top speeds of 170 Kmph, thus extracting power from a 105.4 kWh LFP blade battery, which is sourced from BYD. This battery ensures a significant range of 650 Km on a single charge as claimed by the CLTC test cycle.

Ford Bronco New Energy EV also comes with highly advanced tech features such as lidar sensor attached at the windshield, thus providing highly advanced ADAS features.

Hybrid Versions for added Efficiency

Apart from EV powertrains, Ford will be also introducing plug-in-hybrid versions that incorporate EREV (Extended Range Electric Vehicle) technology, many big auto players like Maruti Suzuki are also working on this technology.

Ford has utilised the same motor setup used in Bronco EV, and instead has equipped a 1.5-litre petrol engine that is only used as a range extender, as it is not the major power source and doesn’t power the wheels.

The hybrid versions get a 43.7 kWh battery pack, which can provide a range of 200 Km on solely electric power, while the combined range of the SUV with the petrol engine is rated at 1,220 Km. The hybrid models are comparatively lighter and measure 2,510 Kg.

Expected Launch in India

Currently Ford will be selling this SUV exclusively in the Chinese markets but they could be introducing the SUV for the international markets. As Ford exited the Indian market, there are rumors that they are planning their return with their critically acclaimed next-gen Everest also called as Endeavour in Indian markets.
