The Chief Minister of Delhi will soon be making an announcement regarding the new electric vehicle policy, which is set to be in effect from the start of the next financial year.

The Chief Minister shared that the Policy framework is complete and specifically aimed at addressing the escalating pollution levels, thereby bolstering the capital's transportation infrastructure. The alarming level of pollution is due to the majority of emissions tied to PM2.5 and PM10 pollution in Delhi, and a revolutionary shift to electric mobility has significantly reduced the impact.

According to the Chief Minister, the policy framework is designed specifically in order to reduce the carbon emissions of New Delhi. She elaborated that the majority of emissions in Delhi are caused by PM2.5 and PM10 pollutants, and transitioning towards electric mobility has played a significant role in reducing these pollutants.

The policy will also include additional incentives for vehicle scrappage. Owners will have the option to scrap their old ICE vehicles in order to be eligible for the financial benefits while purchasing EVs, which could be a big step towards accelerating the phasing out of old ICE cars.

How will the Government be executing this Policy?

The Government is in talks with various vehicle manufacturers, scrap dealers, and power distribution companies. Following its finalization, the draft policy will be published to the general public to get the feedback of a large chunk of Delhi’s audience.

The new policy will be also focussing towards strategizing a range of initiatives to ensure there are sufficient public charging points, not only along primary roads but also within close reach of residential neighborhoods.

Furthermore, there are multiple options being considered for battery swapping, and the appropriate disposal of used batteries is also a key component of this process. Thus giving enough time to users from transitioning to electric vehicles.
