Xiaomi has announced its entry into the ever evolving segment of electric cars with its latest offering SU7 EV. With the launch of their latest product, the manufacturer is all set and aiming for setting higher standards and competing with bigger key players in the market including Tesla and BYD.
Xiaomi understands the pulse of the Chinese EV market and is all set to mark their presence in the European Markets. The tech specialist turned automaker will be selling its first electric car in European markets by 2027, where Tesla and BYD have strengthened its roots and established their identity.
According to Bloomberg, Xiaomi is expanding their consumer base of its EV business as the company’s president, Lu Weibing, has expressed its views on the company’s expansion strategy and has announced 31% of growth in quarterly revenue, just after the introduction of their second EV in summers.
Xiaomi’s Strategy for European Markets
Xiaomi had earlier expressed its ambitions to go for international markets, although they are still not clear about their target markets as to where they want to position themselves.
However, going by the trend, Europe is the most lucrative market for Chinese companies to sell their products and grow rapidly, considering they could sell their cars at higher margins. In European markets there is a tariff of up to 48% for Chinese manufacturers which includes a base 10% import duty and an additional countervailing levies of around 35-38%.
According to Xiaomi, they produced around one lakh units of SU7 EV last year and the SU7 is the sole product from Xiaomi which they are selling at the moment. It is a proper sports sedan which was introduced last year in the international markets. The SU7 was also displayed in India, but currently the company has revealed no plans to sell into Indian markets.
