Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to meet Elon Musk on his US visit, and the meet can have exciting discussions about enhancing the future of the EV industry in India. ‘From production of electric vehicles, and a big partnership between ISRO and SpaceX, this meeting can revolutionize the future of EV in India and enhance space sectors.

Elon Musk has also been looking forward to bringing Tesla to India for the past many years, and this meeting might be a first step towards it. India’s discussion around Starlink will be important as India can serve as an emerging market for SpaceX’s satellite internet services.

The partnership between ISRO and SpaceX can also lead to more advanced collaborations for the development of India’s EV ecosystem.

However, Modi's meeting is generally creating buzz particularly regarding Starlink’s satellite broadband services in India. Musk’s SpaceX-owned Starlink is interested in launching their broadband services in India, but technical delays have slowed down the process.

The Indian government has supported Musk’s point of satellite spectrum, which should be assigned and not auctioned.

Tesla’s potential entry in the Indian market is now becoming a hotter topic of discussion, but it remains unclear whether this topic will come in the Modi-Musk talks. However there could be serious discussions on increasing sourcing of EV components from India.

Musk also has strong opinions about India’s high import taxes on electric cars, which have caused hindrance in Tesla’s entry into the Indian market, as Tesla is not able to set local manufacturing plants, despite having long discussions with the Indian government.

PM Modi will reportedly not meet with any of the business leaders during his US visit, showing signs about the significance of his meeting with Elon Musk which is a major highlight of this trip and crucial for economic growth.

Manufacturing and Economic Significance

Parth Jindal, Managing Director of JSW Group also expressed confidence that Tesla’s entry in India can significantly bring growth in the sales of EV industry. He further added, “India is waiting for Tesla to enter the market, Tesla’s entry will give even better choices for EVs and an improved technology.”

Jindal pointed out that India’s economic growth and manufacturing still contributes to a small share of the country's GDP. He also put an emphasis on generating more employment through industrialisation. He even highlighted the importance of protecting the domestic market to ensure a fair competition for local industries.
