Is this the new Electric Polo? Volkswagen has teased the ID.2 ahead of the 2025 Munich Auto Show.

Volkswagen is working on its new sub-compact electric SUV and has teased the same at the IAA Mobility Show, organised in Munich, Germany. The upcoming SUV was displayed via official design sketches posted on social media by Volkwagen’s Head of Design, Andreas Mindt.
This upcoming SUV is codenamed ID.2 and will be positioned in the cost-effective budget EV segment from the German automaker, as the company wants to widen its roots in the mass market EV sector.
The debut of this new SUV marks Volkswagen's effort to expand its electric vehicle range, introducing a variety of cost-effective EVs. However, according to various speculations of being a near-production variant, the ID.2 could be an electric version of the T-Cross and will be positioned below the ID.4.
What’s even more interesting is that Volkswagen could effectively utilize Polo’s nameplate by making the ID.2 as the electric successor in many international markets. The expectation is that this new electric SUV will act as a spiritual successor, rather than being a direct conversion.
Volkswagen ID.2 Expected Design & Features
Visually, the ID.2 in the sketches holds an imposing road presence. The SUV features oversized alloys and also houses sporty chunky bumpers with a wide stance. However it is expected that these design inserts could be reduced in the final production form.
When it comes to the front design, the ID.2 is enhanced by modern LED headlights that are connected by a chrome strip running along the front. The sculpted fenders help in giving a bold look, with rear housing full-width taillights and a big diffuser with LED styling.
Additionally, the cabin will showcase a tidy, forward-thinking aesthetic and might come equipped with a 12.9-inch infotainment display, complemented by a spacious 10.9-inch digital cluster that incorporates physical buttons and other conveniences. There is also an inclusion of specific drive modes displaying various themes, according to the mode set.
Volkswagen ID.2 Battery & Performance
The all-electric SUV will be crafted on Volkswagen’s latest MED Entry architecture, which will underpin future models such as ID.1Every and ID.2All hatchback concepts. The ID.2 concept could also come with All-Wheel Drive and Front wheel drive configurations. It could be also powered by single and dual motor setups.
The SUV could draw power from two battery packs, with an expected range of approx 450 Km on a single charge. However, the company has not revealed the exact details, the Volkswagen ID.2 could be positioned above the ID.2 all hatchback, thus with an extra cost of €25,000-30,000 (Approx Rs 25.74 Lakh to Rs 30.89 Lakh).
