BMW AG is all set to introduce three new electric cars in India as it is planning to expand its BEV-only strategy. This move has been implemented by the German manufacturer in order to increase its EV sales across the country by up to 25% by the end of 2026, which will be significantly more than 21% from the last year.

Currently, BMW is not planning to start its hybrid lineup in India and will be exclusively focusing on fully-electric models, as confirmed by President and CEO of BMW Group India, Hardeep Singh Brar. However, the company has not revealed the exact details, but expects the new model to be a part of broader product strategy in the country.

Sales Momentum accelerates the EV goal

BMW has sold more than 18,000 vehicles in India in 2025 and has almost achieved its EV sales target. Out of the total sale, EVs accounted for 23% of total BMW sales in the three months which ended on December 31, which just reflects the strong and increasing demand. According to Brar, BMW is currently leading with 60% of India’s luxury EV market, as per the estimates.

Diverse Product Lineup and Increased Supply

Apart from the upcoming three EVs, BMW is planning to develop its EV lineup by introducing a total of 27 new products in India, which includes major updates to its existing products. Brar also said in an interview that, “Demand for EVs is constantly increasing, commanding a waiting period of 3 months as we are planning to increase the supply till 2026.

iX1’s Role, Pricing & Tariffs

The average selling price of BMW EVs is close to 60 lakh rupees, which is at par with Tesla’s Model Y standard range. Both companies are currently facing a 110% tariff on all-electric vehicles. However, the iX1 is the most selling model across the BMW’s electric lineup and comes at an introductory price of Rs 50 lakh.

The iX1 holds for the majority of the company's 3,700 EV sales in 2025. Brar further clarified that BMW’s rising EV sales and faster growth during the December sales, as it indicates that its competitive positioning remain intact even by the entry of big players like Tesla in the Indian market.

The good part is that nearly half of the iX1 buyers are first-time luxury buyers, which are coming from the mass-market brands. Thus lower running costs and less maintenance requirements of EVs have become an important factor in making the purchase decisions, as per Brar.

BMW Charging Infrastructure

BMW has installed 12 high-capacity fast chargers along major highways at intervals of 300 Kms, along with 52 fast chargers at dealer locations in order to accelerate EV adoption. BMW is also investing a total of 4 billion rupees to upgrade its existing dealerships and expand its charging infrastructure across the country.
