Next-Generation BMW iX3 Battery & Performance
The process of designing Neue Klasse cars is completely different as the next-generation iX3 will be designed on BMW's state-of-the-art completely new Gen6 architecture. As compared to the iX3, the current BMW SUV is basically EV conversion of the platform which was exclusively made for ICE powertrains, further classified as CLAR-based BMW X3.
According to BMW, Neue Klasse EVs are highly advanced as they support 800V fast-charging and will be powered by batteries that are 20% more energy dense than the previous ones. However, the company has not revealed the iX3’s exact battery specifications, along with technical details of the motor and its power consumption.
However after analysing the range of previous test mules which offered impressive range numbers of 900 Km as per China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle, and 800 Km certified by Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure. They also showed that the new EV is also capable of a 350 Km of range addition in just 10 minutes of charging.
Just for reference, the current generation iX3 sold in global markets is powered by a 286 HP rear-wheel drive motor integrated with an 80 kWh battery pack supporting 400V fast charging support. The current iX3 provides a WLTP-certified range of 461 km on a single charge, and can provide a 100 Km range top up in 10 minutes via 350 kW fast charger.
BMW iX3 Expected Design
Visually, looking at the Vision Neue Klasse X prototypes could give a glimpse of modern design elements such as sealed-off nose, illuminated signature kidney grille of the brand, and slanting LED daytime running lamps. The electric SUV's side profile showcases sleek door panels complemented by contemporary flush-fitting door handles.
As per various reports, the new-generation iX3 could have longer dimensions and will be much wider than the outgoing model. Talking about the rear section, it incorporates slim horizontal tail-lamps, which are not connected. However looking at the test mule, it is expected that many design cues have been featured from the BMW iX flagship.
