JSW-Cherry Hybrid SUV expected to launch in India soon

JSW Group is all set to enter into a partnership with Cherry motors to co-develop their first electric SUV, the Jetour T2. This electric SUV will be built with the collaboration of JSW Group and Cheery, and will be a Hybrid SUV.

JSW-Cherry Strategic Alliance

There will be a strategic technology sharing between JSW and the Chinese manufacturer Cherry. Unlike the partnership between JSW and MG, this upcoming project is JSW’s pure imagination. They are planning to bring a boxy Jetour T2, which is a sub-brand of Chery to Indian shores, that will be further rebranded with a new JSW nameplate. 

This strategic move is a major shift in bringing the premium international brand to Indian roots without the import route, as it is expected to be locally manufactured in Maharashtra. 

Jetour T2 | The Defender Alternative?

Visually, the electric SUV has an imposing on-road presence and features squared-off wheel arches and upright stance as it shares a striking resemblance from the Land Rover Defender. However, it is confirmed that the upcoming SUV will be a Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (PHEV). 

It will be integrated with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine paired with a dedicated hybrid transmission, providing an impressive 130 Km of pure electric range. This also eradicates the fear of range anxiety as you can drive electric in the city and switch to petrol on the highway. 

Jeteour T2 Expected India Launch

The company has not revealed the exact date of the launch, but expects it to launch in the Indian market by Q3 2026 (around Diwali). It is also expected to launch in a price range of ₹40–45 Lakh, thus undercutting its competition and providing similar technology with sheer road presence.
