The Kia Syros EV is the second car under Kia’s lineup and is positioned below the Carens Clavis EV and comes powered with 42 kWh and a substantial 51.4 kWh battery pack. We recently had a talk with the tester of the Kia Syros EV in order to know the real-world range he is able to extract with the car.

According to the user, the Kia Syros EV provided a real-world range between 350-400 Km in mixed driving conditions.

City Limits: In standard city traffic, the Syros EV provides an exceptional range of 400 to 420 Km on full charge. The stop-and-go city traffic enhances the range as it helps the regenerative braking system to do its work and increases the efficiency by roughly 7.8 km per kWh.

Highway: At highway speeds up to 100 km/hr, the car’s boxy design faces a bit resistance at high speeds, which impacts the range and settles it around 360 to 380 Km. If you take the speed to 120 km/hr, the range extensively drops to just 320 Km due to aerodynamic drag.

The Setup: Settings and Driving Conditions

In order to test the Syros EV’s real world range capabilities, the tester didn't use hypermiling techniques or was driving conservatively in Eco mode. During the whole range test, the car was driven in a Natural model (Ideal for everyday driving) with the regen mode set to Auto.

These conditions are quite realistic for everyday driving and an average road trip:

  • Occupancy: Two Adults in the car with around 20 kg of luggage.
  • Weather: A pleasant cloudy day with outside temperatures ranging from 23°C to 30°C.
  • Comfort: The climate control was set on ‘Auto’ at a comfortable 23°C to 24.5°C on the lowest fan speed.

The Final Verdict

This range test proves the capability of the Syros EV, as it can give tough competition to already established rivals like Hyundai Creta Electric. While the boxy design does create wind resistance on the highway, impacting the range numbers, the brilliant tech integration with added efficiency makes it an ideal choice for consumers who prioritise everyday driving in the city limits.
