The Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e are expected to feature a 79kWh battery in their base models.

Mahindra is planning to introduce the bigger 79 kWh battery pack to the base models of BE 6 and XEV 9e. The company has announced this after delivering a total of 6,300 units of the BE 6 and XEV 9e electric SUVs from deliveries beginning in March this year.
Mahindra has registered over 75% of bookings of the top spec Pack Three variant and now the company is focussing on manufacturing lower trims to attract buyers who are on a budget. At the start, Mahindra was only selling the top spec Pack Three variants.
The Pack Three Select variants are expected to arrive in June, with the Pack Two variants coming in July. However the base models will take more time to come and are expected to come sometime in August 2025.
What prevents inquiries from turning into bookings for lower models?
Speaking on the issue, Rajesh Jejurikar disclosed that in spite of the constant inquiries from the customers about the lower trims, users are reluctant to book the car without experiencing the vehicle personally.
He even clarified further that current bookings are majorly for the top-spec model as more than 75% of the bookings are made for the Pack three variant. He said, “The current booking scenario will change when we will start displaying the lower models such as Pack Two and Pack One.”
Stronger Preference towards a Longer range due to a bigger battery
The most interesting part of the current bookings is that consumers are having a stronger desire to go for top models having extended driving range, as compared to features and technology. This is the reason why Mahindra is bringing changes to their variant line-up by introducing a bigger battery pack on the lower models.
Jejurikar expressed that, “There is a majority of people who want a bigger 79 kWh battery pack in lower trims, as there is a large section of the audience who prioritise range over features and are more inclined towards enhanced range offered in the top trims.
To solve this issue, Mahindra may update its current lineup of BE 6 and XEV 9e by introducing bigger 79 kWh battery packs to the lower trims, where there will be less features and will be a more affordable and value for money options for those who want a bigger battery pack.
By using the above strategy, Mahindra is quite confident to reach a wider section of customers and drive higher volumes. Jejurikar further added, “To achieve record sales, we need to revise the Pack One and Pack Two Models and make them attractive by bringing a larger 79 kWh battery pack.
Looking at the current situation, there could be a saturation at this price point and it will be difficult to sell higher units. Thus it is crucial to gain at least 25-30% of bookings from lower variants like Pack 2 and Pack 1.”
