Mercedes-Benz & NVIDIA Expand Strategic Partnership for Highly Automated Driving
Mercedes has extended its strategic collaboration with NVIDIA, marking its significant step for automated driving technology and enabling AI in cars. Apart from a software update, this will result in a commitment towards bringing safe, highly automated driving into the future.
Let’s breakdown, how this extended partnership will be evolving the next generation of mobility and what it means for your future on the road.
Mercedes-Benz & NVIDIA Partnership
Mercedes-Benz and NVIDIA are extending their strategic partnership to push the boundaries of innovation and develop their next-generation automated driving systems.
Thus by striking a perfect coordination of Mercedes-Benz’s century-long legacy of automotive engineering and safety with NVIDIA’s highly advanced accelerated computing, the two giants are building their own legacy.

Mercedes’s proprietary operating system, MB.OS is the vehicle's central nervous system and handles the majority of new driving functions and over-the-air updates. However, to make it more efficient, it needs advanced brainpower and that’s what NVIDIA brings to the table.
The Tech Under the Hood
Mercedes-Benz will be powering NVIDIA’s full autonomous-driving stack across its entire architecture. So, what exact technology will be equipped with these vehicles. Let’s understand.
- NVIDIA Hyperion: This is the foundational in-vehicle computing and sensor architecture. It operates as a developed hardware that allows the car to “See” and analyse its surroundings in real time.
- The Alpamayo Stack: Alpamayo is basically NVIDIA’s full-stack driving software integrated with AI reasoning capabilities. It is specifically designed to handle everything from point-to-point urban assistance and active safety protocols for seamless automated parking.

- NVIDIA Halos: For Mercedes, safety is top priority. Halos is a safety suite, which helps in adding strict guardrails and important redundancy. What it does is it operates as a digital safety net, ensuring that AI takes accurate, fail-safe decisions in complex driving situations.
It was also explained by NVIDIA’s Vice President of Automotive, Ali Kani, “Accelerated computing is providing intelligence to vehicles in order to understand the world around them and critical reasoning via complex driving situations.”
Mercedes-Benz is also implementing NVIDIA technologies for highly advanced vehicle engineering simulations. To achieve that, NVIDIA silicon is attached directly to MO360 (Mercedes-Benz’s digital production ecosystem), in order to ensure that next-generation vehicles are born from AI, built by AI, and driven by AI.

SAE-Level 4 “Robolimousines”
The company has set the vision of bringing SAE-Level 4 application into real-time use, specifically called as “Robolimousines.” Level 4 autonomy means that the vehicle is designed to operate completely without driver involvement under specific requirements and areas. Thus Mercedes is committed to take engineering innovation to another level by also introducing go-anywhere autonomy (Level 5).
