Simple Energy has emerged as one of the first companies to become an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to manufacture heavy rare earth-free motors for electric vehicles. This marks a big milestone in EV equipment production and was achieved by research and development at its exclusive manufacturing facility situated in Hosur, Tamil Nadu and takes a big step towards sustainable mobility and self-independent EV production.

The new concept of motor architecture eradicates the use of heavy earth magnets, as this process follows traditional usage of torque density and compactness. Instead, Simple Energy will be using new techniques where they will be optimising compound alternatives and will be delivering proprietary algorithms that regulate heat and torque in real time.

Simple Energy has already started the production of these motors and will be giving more performance than the traditional systems. The CEO & Co-Founder of Simple Energy, Suhas Rajkumar expressed his views on this and said,

“The future of electric mobility should be self-independent, mainly because of Global supply chain disruptions and material dependencies. Thus there is a strong need for localisation of EV parts and a ‘Make in India’ approach, which can help us advance in the field of EV manufacturing.”

This development has emerged from the growing complexities in the global EV supply chain and dependence of Indian EV manufacturers on important raw materials. Simple energy follows the approach of ‘Make in India’ and is working on establishing geopolitically neutral alternatives for motor production, which will accelerate India towards EV adoption.

This is a big achievement because many other EV players are dependent on external suppliers for production of rare earth magnets, but on the other hand,  Simple Energy locally designs and produces its own motors, which enables seamless integration. The utilization of advanced technologies has led the company to achieve 95% localisation across its supply chain and manufacturing processes.

Simple Energy was founded in 2019 and was earlier used to sell long-range electric scooters which includes Simple ONE Gen 1.5 providing 248 Km of range and Simple OneS returning a claimed range of 181 Km on a single charge.

Currently it has raised more than $41 million dollars in funding and runs more than 46 showrooms which are distributed across cities like Bangalore, Goa, Pune, Vijayawada, Hyderabad, Vizag, and Kochi. The company is focussing on expanding their showrooms to over 150 stores and 200 service centers by the end of FY25.

Simple Energy is also preparing for Initial Public Offering (IPO) in the Q2-Q3 FY27, and is expected to raise $350 million dollars which will be utilized to take the manufacturing to another level and ramp up the product innovation.
